proofreading

Hi, I’m Sophie!

I’m a Philadelphia-based PDF transcript proofreader. I’ve always had a knack for editing and proofreading — noticing that typo or that extra space in the formatting that no one else did.

I work with court reporters to ensure their final transcripts are clean, readable, and to their liking. Whether you are in a bind and need someone last minute or are thinking of hiring a proofreader for the first time to take on your growing backlog, I can help.

I’m here for the long run. I aim to build a lasting relationship with all of my court reporters. I will continue to learn from your style over time — before long we’ll be a well-oiled machine. You can trust me to be communicative and detailed throughout the process.

Let’s tackle those transcripts together! You can reach me at proofreading@little-cabbage.com

“Sophie is just what I'm looking for in a proofer -- attention to detail and easy to communicate with. I will definitely work with her again. If you need a proofer, you will not be disappointed with Sophie.”

still have Questions?

Here are some frequently asked questions, or you can email me at proofreading@little-cabbage.com.

  • PDF proofreading allows proofreaders to work with court reporters regardless of software. Your file is exported as a PDF, and we annotate the PDF only. You do the final review of your transcript with our annotations and suggestions, so that you can choose what you implement and you remain the final eyes on your product. Please note I do NOT offer proofreading to audio or scoping services.

  • I proofread all the pages you send me, including title pages, appearances, indexes, etc. I will look for spelling, punctuation, capitalization, hyphen, and byline errors, and missing/wrong words. I will also point out formatting issues as well as inconsistencies or confusing information based on context. Typically I will look up attorney details, names, places/addresses, technical terms, and anything I’m unsure about. Here is a sample of what an annoted file would look like.

  • I reference Margie Wakeman Wells and Kenneth Wick resources. I use Merriam-Webster Dictionary. If a court reporter has a preferred reference, I will defer to that.

  • Expert testimony and technical/dense transcripts are expert depositions or examinations that sometimes have medical, legal, other jargon, and/or particularly dense, margin-to-margin transcripts such as arbitrations.

Messy transcripts clearly were not fully scoped or spellchecked and have many (basic) errors per page.

Federal holidays include: Jan 1, MLK, Pres. Day, Memorial Day, Jun 19, Jul 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Dec 25, Dec 31.

If you disagree with an upcharge, I would be happy to discuss specific expectations for future transcripts.

  • Each file or chunk I receive as part of a transcript will be invoiced according to my rate sheet based on the time I received it and the predetermined due date and time you tell me. I will confirm receipt and rate via email for each file when received. I will include add-ons in the invoice if applicable. It helps if you tell me ahead of time to expect expert testimony or something that needs more love. Invoices will come from Wave.

  • You can check out the 5-star reviews by court reporters on my Stenovate profile.

HOW IT WORKS

Send me an email with your PDF transcript file, due date and time (don’t forget time zone) and voila! I’ll confirm my availability and then share back just the annotated pages once I’m done. Super urgent? Send it in chunks as you finish.

First time clients will be invoiced upon completion.

Want to work together long term?

Share your preference sheet with me or fill out mine. Tell me about the types of transcripts you do and typical weekly volume. Each month I will send you an invoice on the 1st. Lastly — send me feedback anytime and I will continue to adjust my annotations to your preferences.
